Currently, he leads Hydrate, Flow Assurance and Phase Equilibria Research Group at Institute of Petroleum Engineering, Heriot-Watt University. He is the Director of International Centre for Gas Hydrate Research and the Centre for Flow Assurance Research (C-FAR) at Institute of Petroleum EngineeringHeriot-Watt University with several projects on various aspects of gas hydrates and flow assurance, and phase behaviour and properties of reservoir fluids and H2S/CO2-rich systems. His is a consultant to major oil and service companies. Bahman is Managing Director of “HYDRAFACT LIMITED” a Heriot-Watt spin-out Company formed in 2006 with Flow Assurance and PVT as its main area of activity.  Hydrafact played a major role in Heriot-Watt University winning the Queen’s Anniversary Awards in 2016.

  • Research Assistant, Tertiary Oil Recovery Project, University of Kansas, U.S.A. 1984-1987

Research Interests

Improved Oil Recovery (IOR), Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), Reservoir Modelling & Simulation, and Wax & Asphaltene studies.

Numerous production mechanisms and harsh reservoir conditions make the available EOR and most chemicals used for conventional reservoirs not to be suitable for naturally carbonated fractured reservoirs. Hence better reservoir characterization and proper selection and design of the injection fluids requires more attention. In my research, I was able to visualize and identify these mechanisms through designed experimental and modeling techniques. Processes such as GAGD, VAPEX, SAGD, TAGD, etc. were investigated thoroughly with the main focusing on understanding and quantifying EOR mechanisms for NCFR.
